Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival Returns to North Ayrshire with 24 Incredible Events

The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival is now live, bringing its inspiring programme of creativity, conversation and connection to communities across Scotland. This year, North Ayrshire is proud to host an incredible 24 events and exhibitions, offering something for everyone to enjoy as part of Scotland’s national celebration of arts and mental health.

Why not begin your festival journey with the North Ayrshire Community Takeover Trail? This unique trail transforms everyday spaces across North Ayrshire into places of inspiration, expression and discovery. Inspired by this year’s theme, Reflections, local artists, community groups and organisations have come together to create thought-provoking installations and displays that encourage us to pause, connect and see our communities in a different light. Alongside the trail, visitors can explore Reflection Spaces located in libraries across North Ayrshire, offering creative displays, reflections and wellbeing resources designed to inspire conversation and self-reflection.

The festival programme stretches right across the area, from Arran to Irvine, Kilwinning to Largs, with opportunities to enjoy photography exhibitions, community art displays, theatre performances, poetry events, creative workshops, storytelling, music and much more. Highlights include exhibitions from local recovery communities, creative showcases from unpaid carers and wellbeing groups, community drumming events, stained glass workshops, live theatre, spoken word performances and interactive arts experiences.

Now in its fourth year in North Ayrshire, the festival continues to demonstrate the powerful role that arts and culture can play in supporting mental health and wellbeing. The festival creates opportunities for people to come together, share experiences, challenge stigma and celebrate the creativity that exists within our communities. Each year, hundreds of local people take part as artists, performers, organisers, volunteers and audience members, helping to create welcoming spaces where conversations about mental health can happen naturally and positively.

The impact of the festival extends far beyond the events themselves. It helps people build connections, discover new creative interests, gain confidence and feel part of something bigger. For many participants, it provides a platform to tell their stories, reflect on their experiences and find hope and inspiration through creativity.

We would love our communities to help spread the word. Whether you attend an exhibition, join a workshop, experience a performance or simply explore the Community Takeover Trail, your involvement helps support a growing movement that recognises the importance of creativity in mental health and wellbeing.

So why not take some time this autumn to explore all that the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival has to offer? Bring a friend, share your experience, and encourage others to get involved. Together, we can celebrate the creativity, resilience and community spirit that makes North Ayrshire such a special place.
